Imagine All The Pretty Green Seats
Jul 1st, 2007 by Darren
As the Buehrle saga continues we get continuing coverage all over the place. This quote from the Daily Herald:
While Buehrle and the White Sox had agreed on a four-year, $56 million contract extension, the deal disintegrated because the Sox won’t give the 28-year-old left-hander a full no-trade clause.
In the grand scheme of things, that seems like a ludicrous deal-breaker. And surely, the Sox will budge, right?
“No,’’ White Sox general manager Kenny Williams told the Daily Herald in an e-mail Saturday night. “I cannot build a championship team if I do. The short-term and long-term ramifications are just too great.’’
I say Kenny might want to reconsider the ramifications of all the people who will be watching the games on television in the near future and looking at a sea of green. All those new green seats that they put in over the past couple of years are going to start getting less and less use.
Williams can’t build a championship team if he gives Buehrle a no-trade clause? Are you kidding me? I think it’s time to fire Williams and get a GM that can. This makes absolutely no sense. After all, Buehrle is just trying to make sure that his hometown discount isn’t being given to anyone but the White Sox. As I said in the previous post, look at what happened to Bronson Arroyo.
The fans have spoken Kenny, it’s up to you whether you want fans to support this team or if you’d rather have a sea of green.
